Why Mayor Gary Christenson Is Voting For Warren

“Elizabeth’s philosophy will ensure that people in Malden and cities across the Commonwealth have a fair shot at success.” gate.io login.

Warren and Brown

Malden Mayor Gary Christenson endorses Elizabeth Warren. Here’s why: a comparison of Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown on the issues that matter.

Polls and Politics

Very encouraging polling news this morning, as DailyKos reports strong movement toward Warren, even from Republican-leaning Kimball Consulting.

Meanwhile, some volunteers at Blue Mass Group have expressed anxiety that Warren’s campaign sometimes seems to be making more progress educating voters than winning the election. Old and sober hands remind us that the debates – and lots of paid media — are all ahead.

There’s lots of work to do, and it’s going to be great.

The System Is Rigged

Garance Frank-Ruta at The Atlantic covers Elizabeth Warren’s rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention.

“People feel like the system is rigged against them. And here's the painful part: they're right. The system is rigged. Look around. Oil companies guzzle down billions in subsidies. Billionaires pay lower tax rates than their secretaries. Wall Street CEOs – the same ones who wrecked our economy and destroyed millions of jobs – still strut around Congress, no shame, demanding favors, and acting like we should thank them. Anyone here have a problem with that? Well I do.”

At Daily Kos, Elizabeth Warren reminds us that We Built It Together.

Last night, Chris Christie and the Republicans told the American people that we're to blame for our broken economy. He told families to tighten their belts. He told seniors to live on less. He told teachers to stop fighting for fair pay.
He never, ever mentioned how much more the richest have taken, and he had no mention that those who broke our economy still haven't been held accountable.
The Republicans believe in an America that is rigged for the big guys - giant corporations that can hire an army of lobbyists, ship jobs overseas, and take their profits to the Cayman Islands.
Warren on Small Business

In Politico, Elizabeth Warren speaks out on small business. She doesn’t mince words or suffer fools.

Washington politicians line up 10-deep to claim they support small businesses, but they avoid talking about a harsh reality: The system is rigged against small business. These owners can’t afford armies of lobbyists in D.C., but the big corporations can. It’s those armies of lobbyists that create the loopholes and special breaks that let big corporations off the hook for paying taxes. While small businesses are left to pay the bills.
...
If a business takes its profits to the Cayman Islands, ships its jobs overseas or finds a loophole to avoid paying its fair share of taxes, then that business now has a leg up over every small business and start up that can’t take advantage of those loopholes. Sometimes the big can get bigger not because they are better but because they can work the system better. That’s bad for every small business in America.

Good commentary as well at Daily Kos, where Joan McCarter is doing terrific work covering the campaign.

Tricks, Traps, and Accountability

Elizabeth Warren writes on Daily Kos.

“Following deregulation in the 1980s, a number of big banks figured out that they could build a very profitable business based on deception -- tricks and traps buried in fine print, teaser rates that hid the true costs of mortgages, and obscure terms (like double-cycle billing) than no one understood. They sold a lot of mortgages, credit cards and other loans, sometimes deliberately targeting people they knew wouldn’t be able to pay in order to rake big fees off the top before they sold the loans to someone else.”
CFPB Fines Capital One

Elizabeth Warren’s brainchild, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, announced its first enforcement action Wednesday morning, targeting Capital One for deceptive marketing tactics. Two million bank customers will receive refunds, and the bank will pay a $25 million penalty.
